How Can I Help?
My name is Ojani Walthrust and I am running to be your Student Association Executive Vice President. I currently serve as an Elliott School Senator in the Student Association on the Finance Committee and I am looking forward to serving all 25,000+ students at the George Washington University.

Sensibility |
Solidarity |
Sensibility means holding GW accountable to promises made and understanding student boundaries. Students of color being racially profiled on campus should not happen. Allowing professors to say derogatory comments towards students without any consequence should not be tolerated. One place to start would be making sure all promises made in regards to diversity are upheld and not swept under a rug. In addition, we need to reform GWPD EMeRG policies to decrease hardened pressure on students who are forced to receive medical attention when unnecessary. This would save students thousands of dollars from hospital bills. Lastly, halls on the Mount Vernon campus should have water filtration stations and water fountains which would help during weekends, holidays and late nights for first year students.

Solidarity means unification. In lieu of the politically divisive climate and now racial incidents in the recent past affecting our community, we need to stick together as a community and foster dialogue through the SA. Specifically, Panell, IFC, MGC, and Alt Greek organizations cooperating with the SA and having cabinet representatives could be one step forward toward a more cohesive GW. For those not involved in Greek life, having town halls more often to transparently address issues helps to put problems into perspective and foster change.

Affordability
Affordability means making financial aid more transparent and dining options on campus more affordable. For many upperclassmen, GWorld can only last for so long. Having decreased meal deals by even $1 from where they currently are would help decrease costs for those who run out of GWorld. In addition, having a financial aid office undergraduate FAQ page to answer questions more quickly would help many students who struggle with financial aid.
Walthrust said his experience as an undergraduate senator in the SA and as a lead on the organization’s finance committee has prepared him to navigate the intricate bureaucracy that would come with the position.
“For executive vice president you need to know the rules. You need to know what needs to be applied,” Walthrust said. “You need to know how to advocate for the Student Association in general and help senators pass legislation to make the community better.”
